Hi Again
The figure I gave of 80000 Euro and 23200 profit were based on the Micro Biz model where for a sales based business it is assumed that your profit is 29% of income, with a ceiling of 80,000.
So, in round figures what is the probable total deduction from my 23,200 euro taxable income. I am just trying to work out if we can afford to live in France or whether to stop dreaming now.

Our personal details are married couple 62 and 57 and daughter of 24 who will have her own business / income but may be living with us, at least at first.
Is it a viable move.

Thanks again

Dave

After living here and working in the Uk the first year and now since running a business in France for 4 years some short and sweet pearls of wisdom:

- Be careful if any of your earnings from the UK are by dividends, a 2nd tax to pay on them here.

- If you are living here then have your business here, there are a lot more 'unfinancial' benefits to be gained from your community than you will ever realise: in the way they accept you and see you, it will take years to start to benefit from this but it makes a very big difference and a sustainable life & business.

- Do not choose an English accountant working in France, choose a French one by recommendation from another commercant (business). Use whoever your local hardresser uses! There are reasons that most of us changed our accountant in year 2 or 3. Dont be scared of language, most of them speak good enough English or have someone assigned to the english clients (if not its cheaper to use a translator and have the right advice)

- You will need to run your business like a french business how the french do, you will not find instructions on this anywhere and will not learn it quickly. But it will cost a little less each snipit you learn. You will need people to trust you and then they will advise you, this includes your accountant, neighbours and other commercants in your town.

Goodluck, its a great place to live (and work), Lisa

Just a couple of points.

A technical author is not treated in the same way as an 'auteur-artiste'. You would be a profession liberale (I know, I have been there).

The limits for micro-bnc (which you would be) and autoentrepreneur refer to turnover, not profit. So you would need to register under the regime réel, or as a SARL/EURL. Either way you will benefit from being able to recover TVA/VAT.

Hello Sportsman,
I recommend that you do a buisiness plan as this is going to be the key to determining which road you are to go down, trying to keep affaires as simple as possible.

But if your annual sales income does not exceed 80keuro then the Auto-entrepreneur scheme must be worth while reading up on. You can mix income between services and sales as long as the global income does not exceed 80keuro and that the services part does not exceed 32keuro.
This system allows you to pay all your social charges and possibly income tax either monthly or 3 monthly.

For a mixed income going up to the maximum limit for services your total social + tax charges would be:
32000euro services = 7359euro charges
48000euro sales = 6240 charges
80000 euro global = 13599 euro global charges

So 80000euro - 13599euro = 66401 remaining

Remembering that you cannot reclaim any TVA or expenses, the question is when you deduct all of your running costs from the remaining 66401euro do you have enough left to live on over a year?
