Hi, Can anyone who has given birth in Avranches hospital tell me if they were given Entonox (gas and air) as pain relief. I am getting conflicting views and am very confused and concerned as in the UK I used it for both my previous births and can't imagine giving birth without it. Also if anyone did, did you have to ask for it and if so was it called the same, Thanks.

Hoopla,
I could translate for you. I'm a qualified French teacher, and also, taught for the National Childbirth Trust, in the UK.

| forgot to say you can visit the maternity ward before hand to put your mind at rest and at avranches it's the hos^pital who provide the clothing for baby during your stay, you provide only what is needed the day you come home |

Hello, I've had two babies at Avranches and was well looked after. Don't know about gas and air because I clearly had non-British style expectations, not having been through childbirth in the UK. But I just wanted to add that the view that they like to give out epidurals as standard does not match my experience.
Avranches maternity section is all single rooms now, with shower and baby changing/bathing area. I remember they assumed that as a Brit I would want to be out of hospital as soon as possible! but personally I was happy to stay and rest 5 days before returning to the reality of home. You don't get any visits at home after (does that still exist in the UK?) so make the most of your stay to ask any questions and for any advice while you're there.
